Most installed fences cost $20 to $60 per linear foot in 2026, or $3,000 to $9,000 for 150 feet. Those numbers are national. What you pay in Charlotte depends on local labor, the material, how much the yard slopes and how easy it is to reach the fence line.
These price ranges are national figures published by HomeGuide for 2026. They are not our quotes. Labor rates in the Charlotte area, material prices and the conditions in your yard push the real number up or down. Last checked October 2026.

How much does a 6-foot wood privacy fence cost?
The national range for a 6-foot privacy fence is $25 to $60 per foot installed. The table below shows totals by length at the general $20 to $60 range. A tall solid fence uses more boards, so expect it in the upper half of each row. Around Charlotte most privacy fence is pressure-treated pine, and cedar costs more.

|---|---|
| 50 feet | $1,000 to $3,000 |
| 100 feet | $2,000 to $6,000 |
| 150 feet | $3,000 to $9,000 |
| 200 feet | $4,000 to $12,000 |
What is the cheapest fence to have installed?
Chain link. It starts near $9 per foot in the national figures. For privacy at the lowest price, the answer is usually a simple dog-ear fence in pressure-treated pine. To keep a large dog in the yard on a budget, 5- or 6-foot chain link does the job, and black vinyl-coated chain link is less noticeable than bare galvanized.
Is black aluminum cheaper than wrought iron or vinyl?
It is cheaper than wrought iron and close to vinyl. The national ranges are $25 to $75 per foot for aluminum, $50 to $85 for wrought iron and $30 to $60 for vinyl. Aluminum does not rust in humid Carolina air, which is one reason it is so common around pools here.
How much extra does a gate cost?
Each gate is priced on its own. The width, the material, the hinges and the latch decide it. A single walk gate is the least. A double drive gate costs more, and a gate with an operator costs the most. We list every gate as a separate line.
How much extra for a slope, brush or an old fence?
We price those after seeing the yard, because they vary too much to guess. Common extras in the Charlotte area are taking down and hauling off the old fence, clearing privet, ivy and wisteria from the line, working around large tree roots, and extra labor where panels have to follow a grade.
I got three quotes and they are far apart. Which one is realistic?
The realistic one is the quote whose scope matches what you asked for. Line them up and compare footage, height, wood type, post size and depth, how the posts are set, the number of gates, removal of the old fence and cleanup. A low number usually means something was left out or downgraded. Ask each bidder for proof of insurance as well.
Does a fence add value to my home?
A solid, tidy fence makes a house easier to sell to buyers with children or dogs, but it rarely pays back its whole cost. For questions about property taxes, ask the Mecklenburg County Assessor's Office, or the assessor in your own county, since that office decides what affects assessed value.
