How much does it cost to fix a leaning fence?

The price follows the number of failed posts. A lean caused by one or two posts is a standard repair in the table. If most of the posts along a side have gone, it costs less to rebuild that side once than to keep coming back for single posts.

Why is my fence leaning, and can it be fixed without replacing it?

In most cases it can be fixed. Fences around Charlotte lean for a few usual reasons: pine posts that rotted at the soil line, red clay that softened after days of rain, footings that were too shallow, and wind pushing on a solid fence. If the rails and pickets are sound, we set new posts and hang the same fence back on them.

How much does it cost to replace a rotted fence post?

Replacing one or two posts normally falls in the $300 to $900 national range. We dig out the old post with its concrete, set a new treated post in fresh concrete that slopes away from the wood, and refasten the rails. Roots, rock or a post buried in a hedge add time.

My gate sags and will not latch. Repair or replace?

Repair it, most of the time. Start at the hinge post. When that post tips, the latch side drops. Loose hinges and a frame that has gone out of square cause the same thing. We reset or brace the post, square the gate and move the latch. If the gate frame itself is rotten, a new gate is the better spend.

How much does a contractor charge to fix a broken gate latch?

A latch is a minor repair, $100 to $300 in the national 2026 figures. Many fence companies have a minimum for a visit, so point out any loose pickets or other small items while we are there.

My fence posts shifted over the winter and the gate will not close. Can they be reset?

Yes. Frost heave is rarely the cause here, because Charlotte winters are mild and the ground freezes only near the surface. The usual cause is clay. It swells in a wet winter, shrinks in a dry summer and slowly works a shallow footing loose. Pushing the post upright does not last. We take the post out with its concrete and set a new one deeper.

My fence line goes wavy every winter. Is it the soil or a bad installation?

Usually some of each. Piedmont clay moves with moisture, and it moves most where downspouts or low spots keep it wet. Posts that were set deep in well-shaped concrete ride it out. Posts set shallow, or in holes that hold water, do not. If the fence is rebuilt, deeper footings and better drainage along the line are what stop the wave.

A branch bent my aluminum fence. Do I need a whole new panel?

Not always. Some aluminum fence can be taken apart, so a rail or a few pickets can be swapped. Much of it is sold as welded or assembled panels, and then the damaged panel is changed as a unit. Text us a photo and we can usually say which you have.
